SPOKANE, Wash. — Construction will soon begin on a new affordable housing development in Spokane’s Hillyard neighborhood.
On May 22, Thrive International, a local organization that works to support Spokane’s refugee and immigrant communities, will host a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction on a new socially-conscious affordable housing development.
The $10.5 million development will feature 48 units with 50% dedicated to workforce and refugee housing, a 1,000 square foot community center, 24-7 library kiosks, a community garden and services to help refugees integrate successfully into Spokane.
The project was made possible through collaborative funding from Spokane Public Library, Washington Trust Bank and private capital.
“This groundbreaking represents more than just new housing—it’s a new approach to creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive,” said Mark Finney, Executive Director of Thrive International. “By combining housing with supportive services and community space, we’re building a foundation for successful integration and community connection.”
Mayor Lisa Brown will deliver remarks at the groundbreaking.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. at 6980 N. Nevada Street.
