SPOKANE, Wash – One of Spokane’s oldest traditions hits the street Saturday night, as thousands will gather for the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade.
Often called simply the “Lilac Parade”, the event is put on by the Spokane Lilac Festival.
The festival tradition began in 1938, originally as a small parade and flower show.
A royalty program came online in 1940 and continues to honor young women in our community on the Royal Court.
There are events all week, culminating with the parade downtown Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
The parade features local marching bands, floats and military and veteran organizations. Thousands of people will crowd sidewalks downtown to catch a glimpse, many of them staking out their spots hours before.
