OLMYPIA, Wash. — Almost 50 people with the Washington State Library network are facing layoffs due to cuts in the state and federally.
According to the Washington Secretary of State’s Office, 47 at-risk of layoff letters were sent out to WSL employees.
The Secretary of State’s Office says state-funded employees will be laid off June 30 and federally funded employees will be laid off September 30.
Washington State Library asked for $6.7 million in the state’s upcoming budget for operations, but those funds were not included in the final budget.
SOS says the most impacted service will be the Research Library in Tumwater and the Washington Talking Book & Braile Library in Seattle. Both could be fully closed.
