SPOKANE, Wash – Developers of a massive housing development in Spokane’s Latah Valley can get moving on the property, after following guidelines put in place by the Spokane hearing examiner.
The plan for Victory Heights was approved with conditions.
The property allows the developer to subdivide 18 parcels of 177 acres into 997 lots. That’s down from 1,003 in the original plan.
The land is west of Highway 195, about four miles from downtown Spokane.
People living nearby have expressed concerns, specifically about increased traffic on 195.
The hearing examiner ruled the project can go forward if the developer meets certain conditions ranging from street construction to care of any neighboring wetlands.
A previous step in the approval process addressed traffic concerns associated with the project.
The city requires the developer to contribute financially to the design and construction of traffic improvements and enhancements on 195.
Spokane County is already planning for a roundabout at Thorpe and Grove Road.
