Universities around the region are reporting the legal statuses of some of their international students have been reinstated.
On Friday, the federal government reversed the termination of legal status for students due to numerous court challenges around the country.
According to the AP, the records maintained by ICE were terminated over the past couple weeks, often without the schools or students being informed.
University of Idaho, Washington State University, and Gonzaga all issued statements confirming one or more international students had their statuses reinstated.
University of Idaho: We are aware of one student’s SEVIS [legal status] record returning to active status. We are continuing to monitor the situation.
Gonzaga: While we cannot comment on specific cases, Gonzaga can confirm at least one student’s status has been reactivated. Gonzaga continues to monitor the federal system for any changes in the visa status of our international students while providing support to those impacted and our entire international student community.
Washington State University: I can confirm that WSU’s two undergraduate international students have had their student visas reinstated. We pleased that they can continuing making progress toward the completion of their degrees.
