LEWISTON, Idaho — The Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s office has launched a partnership with Lewiston businesses to distribute protective cup covers following reports of drink drugging at local establishments.
The initiative coincides with Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), observed annually in April to highlight sexual violence prevention.
“Women in our community deserve to be safe at all times and in every situation,” said Nez Perce County Prosecutor Justin Coleman. “A single incident of drugging someone is completely unacceptable.”
Local law enforcement has investigated multiple cases where victims reported having their drinks drugged before being sexually assaulted.
Free reusable cup covers are now available at:
Hops and Vine (527 Main St. Suite 2)Jollymore’s (1516 Main St.)Corner Villa (2110 14th Ave.)Canters (416 Thain Rd.)Brock’s and Bravas (504 Main St. #201)
Coleman noted that while people should never leave drinks unattended, the cup covers provide “an additional layer of protection.”
Rohypnol (“roofies”) can cause effects within 15-20 minutes that last up to 12 hours, including memory loss, confusion, dizziness, and impaired coordination.
