SPOKANE, Wash. — Longtime Spokane volunteer Larry Barringer has been recognized for his community service by the Serve Washington organization, receiving the Washington State Volunteer Service Award for 2025.
As co-founder of Neighbors Feeding Neighbors, Barringer has dedicated his efforts to supporting those in need in the Spokane area, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
America Strong: Spokane man brings the joy of a hot meal to anyone in need
His commitment to the community includes serving hot meals to those facing food insecurity and delivering thousands of pounds of food to local food banks.
Barringer’s mission has been covered many times by 4 News Now, including a heartbreaking incident in February 2024 when the trailer he used to transport meals was stolen.
This theft left Barringer unsure about the future of Neighbors Feeding Neighbors.
However, the Spokane community rallied around him, raising more than enough funds for a new trailer shortly after our story aired, allowing Barringer to continue his vital work. We were there for its first use!

In addition to community support, Barringer has received recognition from various local organizations, including a heartfelt transformation of his yard by students at Whitworth University ahead of his 70th birthday party in July of 2024.
Earlier this month, Barringer was honored by Serve Washington, a part of AmeriCorps Washington, for his incredible contributions to the community, solidifying his legacy as a dedicated volunteer in Spokane.
