SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — North Pines Middle School is alerting parents their children may have been exposed to whooping cough this week.
According to Principal Dr. Jeremy Vincent, the exposure may have occurred on Tuesday, April 15.
It’s recommended you keep your children home if they have a cough and contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
If your child is diagnosed with whooping cough, you’re asked to alert your school.
Pertussis, or whooping cough, can spread through airway and cause a severe cough that can last weeks or month. It is particularly dangerous in babies or people with underlying health conditions.
The Spokane Regional Health District recommends families stay up to date on their vaccines.
