BOISE, Idaho — People in Idaho on the government’s food assistance program will soon no longer be able to use SNAP funds on soda and candy.
Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 109 into law Tuesday which bans SNAP recipients from certain junk foods.
Governor Little says this puts the state more in line with the federal movement at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ‘Make America Healthy Again.’
The new bill requires the state to get a federal waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make changes to its SNAP program, but Little says the administration will secure the waiver as soon as possible.
