PULLMAN, Wash. – WSU President Kirk Schulz is completing his nine years with the university Monday and he said goodbye in a post on his last day in office.
Schulz will hand over the reins to Dr. Elizabeth “Betsy” Cantwell. She comes to WSU from Utah State University and will be the first woman to hold the position in WSU’s 135-year history.
Schulz has been president of WSU since 2016 and cited “incredible highs and lows over the past nine years.”
His wife Dr. Noel Schulz has served as WSU’s first lady and will continue her role as Director for the Institute for Northwest Energy Futures at WSU Tri-Cities.
Kirk Schulz says he’ll support and counsel President Cantwell as needed, then plans to take a sabbatical and write a book about training the next generation of academic leaders.
“We will continue to reside in the State of Washington,” the Schulzes wrote. “We love the Pacific Northwest.”
