MERIDIAN, Idaho — A reminder is going out to commercial drivers in Idaho about medical certificate compliance changes, which go into effect on April 1.
According to the Idaho State Police (ISP), those driving a passenger or property-carrying commercial vehicle must have a valid medical certificate on file with the state’s licensing agency, or they will be place out of service.
Under old rules, drivers would be placed out of service if they didn’t have the medical certificate on file, and they had a history of non-compliance regarding the medical certificate.
A medical certificate is a document that proves commercial drivers meet the physical qualifications to operate a commercial vehicle.
Beginning April 1, commercial drivers are strongly advised to carry their medical certificate on them.
“Drivers should take proactive steps to ensure they have their valid medical certificate readily available to prevent potential roadside violations,” said Captain Jason Bailey, CVS Division.
Commercial drivers in North Idaho with questions about the new requirement should contact ISP’s District 1 at (208) 209-8620.
