PULLMAN, Wash – In their final game at Beasley Coliseum this season, the WSU women’s basketball team gave fans something to remember: a late-game push to beat Utah Valley in the WNIT.
The Cougs won it on the defensive end, tallying six blocks and forcing 15 turnovers.
The game was tied in the final two minutes with UVU scoring a go-ahead bucket. WSU’s Dayana Mendes answered, but the Wolverines took a two-point lead into the final minute.
With the shot clock expiring, WSU’s Astera Tuhina hit a deep three to give the Cougs a 55-54 lead.
Two defensive stops and an easy layup put the Cougars up 57-54 and that was the final score.
The win sends the Cougars to the WNIT Super 16.
They’ll travel to Fargo to take on North Dakota State Thursday at 5 p.m. PT.
The win Monday night was the 199th for WSU Head Coach Kamie Ethridge.
With 35 minutes played Monday night, WSU’s Tara Wallack became the all-time leader in minutes played with 3,977.
