SEATTLE, Wash. — The matchup has been playfully called “The Vedder Cup” for a while but now the annual series between the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres will be official.
Named after Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, the Vedder Cup will go to the season series winner between the M’s and the Padres starting in the 2025 season.
The Vedder Cup trophy will be a guitar provided by Vedder. The name comes from Vedder’s hometown of San Diego and Pearl Jam’s origin city of Seattle.
The matchup will also feature a charitable aspect supporting the EB Research Partnership, which is a charity co-founded by Vedder and his wife.
This year, the Mariners travel to San Diego for a three-game series May 16-18 then the Padres will head north for three games at T-Mobile Park August 25-27.
