SPOKANE, Wash. — It has been five years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
In 2020, life looked very different. We were staying home, social distancing and waiting in lines for toilet paper.
In Spokane, the Looff Carousel stopped spinning and many of our favorite shops and restaurants closed for good.
“It was scary. I know our restauranteurs were worried. Everybody was scrambling,” said Kate Hudson from Visit Spokane.
Many in our community lost their jobs, homes and even loved ones.
“I think it’s really important as we look back at this stuff to remember what it was like at the time. It was scary,” said Matt Loveless, WSU professor.
Like other universities in our area, WSU shifted classes online during the pandemic.
“I also reflect and I’m really proud of what our students did,” he said.
All of us have our own experiences with the pandemic. Now a lesson for the next generations to come.
