SPOKANE, Wash. — As temperatures begin to rise, many residents are eager to revive their yards. To help homeowners create water-efficient landscapes, the Spokane Public Library is partnering with the City of Spokane for a series of free workshops.
Water consumption in the region triples during the warmer months, with 80% of that usage attributed to landscape maintenance. The workshops aim to educate the community on water conservation while also offering potential financial savings.
“The people who engage in water-wise practices and utilize what’s called SpokaneScape, which is a water-wise program, can get up to $500 in rebate,” said Alina Murcar, marketing and communications manager for Spokane Public Library.
The workshops will be held every Wednesday evening in March and April at the South Hill Library, starting at 5:30 p.m. Upcoming topics include:
Designing a SpokaneScape Yard (March 12) – Cathy Spokas, SpokaneScape’s landscape architecture designer, will cover the fundamentals of creating an efficient and visually appealing water-wise yard.Mulch, Edging, and Hardscapes (March 19) – Learn how to incorporate low-maintenance features like mulch and edging to conserve water while enhancing curb appeal.DIY SpokaneScape Installation Tips (March 26) – Sam Kalk, owner of xeriscaping company Dryland Revival, will share insights on successfully installing a SpokaneScape landscape.
