MOSES LAKE, Wash. — An elementary school in Moses Lake will remain close through the end of the school year.
Groff Elementary closed due to an electrical issue on March 3. School officials originally said the school would be closed until March 7.
On Thursday evening, MLSD announced the school would stay closed for the rest of the year while “necessary repairs” are made.
“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” said Ryan Shannon, MLSD Director of Public Relations. “We understand that this extended closure is frustrating and disruptive for our families. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our community as we develop a plan that best supports everyone affected.”
The district said it is working on a comprehensive plan for how students will continue the rest of the school year. Details about transportation, classroom placement and support services will be shared with families in the next few days.
MLSD said Groff classes and grade levels will be kept together in the new plan.
“We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible for both students and staff,” said Superintendent Carol Lewis.
