SPOKANE VALLEY, WA – Central Valley School District is preparing nearly 70 acres of land adjacent to Ridgeline High School for future development. The land, which was once the site of the Spokane Gun Club, was acquired by the district in 2018. It has taken nearly three years and $3 million to clean up contamination from lead shot and clay pigeons.
Superintendent Dr. John Parker said the cleanup is expected to be completed in the next couple of months, and the district is exploring future development options. “This is going to allow us to have a lot of flexibility for options to build,” Parker said.
While the district does not currently need a new elementary or middle school, Parker suggested that the land could be used for such schools if enrollment continues to increase. “Just this year, we’re anticipating a certain amount of growth, and we are 430 students over that,” Parker explained. “This still remains a destination location for a lot of families to relocate and send their kids to school.”
The district has already developed a mock-up plan from 2021, which outlines potential locations for an elementary and middle school. The design features two-story buildings, football fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, and play areas, while leaving nearly 40 acres available for other district facilities.
As enrollment grows, particularly in the eastern part of the district, Parker emphasized the importance of flexibility. “Our schools are getting close to capacity, and that’s when we need to be flexible,” he said.
