SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) is bringing back a vital community program as three officers assume their new roles as Neighborhood Resource Officers (NROs).
The NRO program, which was discontinued in 2023 due to staffing shortages and the need for additional support in the patrol division, is now being revitalized following the passage of the Community Safety Sales Tax.
The revival comes as a direct response to community demand for greater support and engagement from law enforcement in local neighborhoods.
The officers taking on these new roles today include Officers Deanna Storch (Northeast), Micha Prim (Downtown-South), and Tyler Heiman (Northwest), who will serve as the first NROs under the newly funded program.
The return of the NRO program is expected to improve public safety by fostering stronger relationships between officers and the communities they serve.
