KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A man was sentenced to prison after being convicted of his eighth DUI offense.
According to the Kootenai County Prosecutor, 50-year-old Aurelio Ralph was sentenced to 40 years in prison for felony DUI after a 2024 incident where he was stopped by Idaho State Police for driving the wrong way on an I-90 off-ramp.
Gayton refused sobriety tests, but a blood sample revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.210, more than twice the legal limit.
According to Kootenai County Prosecutor, this was Gayton’s eighth DUI conviction.
He had a history of multiple DUI convictions and was on parole for a previous felony DUI when the incident occurred.
Prosecutors recommended a 40-year sentence with parole eligibility after 20 years, but District Judge Barry McHugh sentenced Gayton to 40 years with parole eligibility after 15 years.
Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen commended the Idaho State Police for preventing a potential head-on collision.
