It’s tax season, which means it’s also time to watch out for tax scammers.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says scammers will continually try to trick, deceive and threaten potential victims to try and get your money or obtain personal information.
Scammers will say that you must follow their instructions and act immediately. SCSO says to think about the situation, verify contact numbers for the IRS or any other agency the scammer is trying to use and contact that agency directly using the verified contact information.
SCSO says the IRS will not contact you by text, social media or email.
If you receive a text or email from someone claiming to be the IRS, do not click the link or reply to the message. Instead, you can report the scam to phishing@irs.gov
