AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Community members came together Tuesday evening to celebrate Airway Heights’ newest fire engine.
A ceremonial push-in ceremony was held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Airway Heights Fire Department.
Families, firefighters and the community got the chance to wash the new engine, add a symbolic bucket of water and push the engine into the firehouse.
The city says this ceremony symbolizes the new engine’s acceptance into service and honors the history of firefighting.
Fire Chief Mitch Metzger thanked the Airway Heights City Council for their “unwavering dedication to the citizens of Airway Heights and their focus on public safety.”Crews spent the last month getting the nearly $650,000 truck ready to serve the community.The new rig is equipped with a state-of-the-art air filtration system that aims to better protect crews from carcinogens while fighting fires.
