COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — North Idaho College (NIC) is on track to keep its accreditation, according to the Northwest Commission on College and Universities.
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) announced Tuesday it has reduced the show cause sanctions first imposed on NIC in 2022.
The college has also been given a one-year extension in order to bring the few remaining accreditation issues into compliance.
NIC originally received a show cause sanction when NWCCU noticed it was out of standards with the accreditation, an issue that NWCCU says was mainly due to the college’s governing board at the time.

“While we still have work to do, this is a step in the right direction,” said NIC President Nick Swayne.
NWCCU said over the past seven months, NIC has shown significant progress in working toward retaining accreditation and is “positioned to remedy the remaining non-compliant issues within the established timeframe of the extension.”
“We’re happy they recognized all the efforts and good work being done at NIC,” Swayne said. “We look forward to putting this completely behind us.”
