SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A Spokane County man has been accused of trafficking and raping a 15-year-old girl. Now, police are searching for more possible victims.
Charges were filed this week against William Morse for separate victims. The FBI still believes he may have preyed on more people.
This all started when the teenage girls posted babysitting ads on Craigslist. According to court documents, Morse contacted the teenage girls and asked them for sex in exchange for money.
Court documents reveal that Morse continuously harassed the teen he had raped until she was fearful. This is a tactic local nonprofit Helping Captives says is common.
Helping Captives is a Christian organization that offers resources to female victims of human trafficking. Founder and CEO Caleb Altmeyer says many of the women they work with started off as child trafficking victims.
He said parents should inform their kids that predators will promise whatever it is they think they want.
“If your kid wants money, they have money. If your kid wants drugs, they’re going to have the drugs. Whatever it is that your kid wants, they’re going to say that they have it to build trust and then isolate them to ultimately perform sex acts,” Altmeyer said.
Altmeyer said a lot of these predators will attempt to build trust with your child and isolate them. This is why having these conversations and monitoring who your child speaks to online is important.
As for Morse’s human trafficking charge, the FBI says this code changed just a few years ago.
“People hear the word human trafficking, and they instantly go to a pimp, but that that law has been expanded to include not only the folks that are that are trafficking, what you would think of pimping the kid, but also the people that are patronizing that that kid,” Steve Bernd, a Spokesperson for the Seattle FBI said.
The FBI is asking anyone who may have information regarding Morse or any information that could help with the investigation to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
