SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was arrested for breaking a protection order and resisting arrest after a nearly four-hour standoff Wednesday evening.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Spokane Valley deputies responded to a reported DV protection order violation.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, a Child Protective Services (CPS) was conducting a welfare check on a 9-year-old child with special needs at a hotel near the intersection of Sullivan Road and E. Indiana Avenue.
During the welfare check the CPS worker discovered that 40-year-old Dustin L. Posey was staying in an adjacent hotel room of the child’s family member, in violation of a protection order.
Deputies said Posey had allegedly made threats toward the protected family member, causing her to fear for her safety. With probable cause to arrest Posey, deputies set up a perimeter around the hotel.
According to SCSO, deputies made multiple attempts to contact Posey, but he refused to respond.
At approximately 9:10 p.m., officers breached the hotel room door and took Posey into custody without further incident.
The 9-year-old child was found inside the room unharmed and was later released to a family member at the scene.
Posey was transported to Spokane County Jail and booked on felony charges for violating a domestic violence protection order and resisting arrest.
