Nominations are now open for the State of the Union Ticket Contest “Classroom of the Capitol.”
This contest recognizes teachers in Washington’s 5th Congressional District and gives them a chance to attend the 2025 State of the Union Address as Congressman Michael Baumgartner’s guest.
The winner will also be honored for their work as a teacher in shaping the minds of Washington’s youth.
The contest is open to all high school educators in the 5th Congressional District. Nominations can be made by students, parents, other teachers or school administrators.
Nominations must include a 250-500 word essay explaining why the nominated teacher deserves to attend the State of the Union.
Congressman Baumgartner said in a press release that “The essay should highlight the teacher’s impact on students, their innovative approach to education, commitment to the classroom, and any special achievements that set them apart.”
Make sure to include the teacher’s name, school and contact information.
Nominations must be submitted by February 18 via email to collin.tracy@mail.house.gov with “State of the Union Teacher Nomination” in the subject line of the email.
Congressman Baumgartner said while the winner will receive a ticket to the event, they will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging.
