PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. — State health officials have suspended credentials of a Pend Orielle County counselor as he faces charges of rape.
51-year-old Grady Clayton Hoaglund, owner of Aegis Counseling Services in Newport, faces charges of second-degree rape, two counts of indecent liberties, providing false statements to Medicaid, and second-degree theft.
According to the court documents, Hoaglund was involved in sexual acts with a patient during a therapy session in February 2022 and again in May 2022.
Court documents say Hoaglund billed Medicaid for eight sessions that did not occur, and on two occasions gave the patient money because he felt sorry for her situation.
According to court documents, the victim was receiving counseling services for approximately two years before the interactions turned sexual.
In November 2022, officials served Hoaglund and Aegis Counseling Services with a search warrant.
“During the warrant service, we located several paper files and documents in the filing cabinets in the back of the office related to the clients identified in the warrant. The exception being there were no records for the victim.” said Senior Special Agent with Attorney’s General Office and Medicaid Fraud Control Division.
As a licensed healthcare professional, Hoaglund is required to keep client records for six years per Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
