SPOKANE, Wash. — A new healthcare clinic at the West Central Community Center is open to all patients with or without insurance.
Dr. Geoffrey Mwangi is an immigrant from Kenya. He has been practicing medicine in Spokane for over 10 years. He just recently opened the Asante Health Clinic.
He said he hopes the clinic will allow him to connect with patients who are having a hard time finding a doctor who looks like them and can meet their needs.
“Patients would come in, especially patients of color, they would come in and I’ve had some patients cry because they have a provider that looks like them, that understands them, that listens to them,” Dr. Mwangi said.
Dr. Mwangi sees about 3-4 patients a day, but hopes to eventually see between 10-15, still far less than doctors at larger practices see.
“We all talk about quality time. When I spend time with patients, taking good history, getting to establish that trust with them, they’re able to open up and tell me what is going on with them,” he said.
The clinic is open to people of all ages, and also works with people who do not have health insurance.
“At Asante Health, we believe your health is your wealth and we will help you guide it, so if you have any health issue, remember it is Asante Health Service,” Dr. Mwangi said.
Asante Health also has dedicated rooms for smaller procedures and can offer referrals to specialists if need be.
