SPOKANE, Wash. — Berkly Catton, the 19-year-old captain of the Spokane Chiefs and Seattle Kraken’s first-round pick, is already turning heads in the hockey world.
The young forward, selected by the Kraken in 2023, is quickly becoming one of the most promising talents in the game.
When asked how good he is at hockey, Catton humbly replied, “Pretty good, I guess.” But after a test on the ice, his skills were undeniable.
Catton made quick work of an accuracy contest, scored effortlessly on a warm-up goalie, and left 4 News Now Anchor Jordan Smith struggling to keep up during a speed race.
Catton, who has been skating since age four, credits his love for hockey as the driving force behind his success.
“Hockey is really my whole life,” he said. “I never get tired of it.”
Moving away from his home in Canada to play for the Chiefs was a challenge, but Catton embraces the discomfort.
“It’s tough, but it makes you a stronger person,” he said.
Selected by the Kraken, Catton’s sights are set on an NHL career, but first, he aims to bring a Memorial Cup to Spokane.
With his dedication and skill, the 30 NHL teams facing him in the future have their work cut out for them.
