MISSOULA, Mont. — Glen Dylan Burkey waived his rights to extradition Thursday afternoon during his first appearance in Missoula County Justice Court.
Burkey is accused of firing several shots through a door of a house in Hillyard early Saturday morning, with one of the rounds striking 13-year-old Peperzak Middle School student, Gavin Looper, in the head. Looper died shortly after being shot.
Police raided Burkey’s last known address on Sanson Avenue near Perry Street on the South Hill Monday evening, but didn’t find him there. Wednesday, he was picked up by police near a movie theater in Missoula, Montana.
On Thursday, Missoula County Justice of the Peace Landee Holloway ordered Burkey be held on no bail for violating Department of Corrections conditions on past convictions, as well as second-degree murder, second-degree assault and drive-by shooting.
Police said Looper was playing video games in the early morning hours of January 26, 2025 when he was hit by gunfire. According to court documents, it was believed that Burkey used a revolver to fire multiple shots, and ran away from the home as someone fired back with a .380 caliber handgun.
Burkey waived his extradition rights, allowing police to return him to Spokane as soon as possible to face charges. Spokane Police told KXLY that logistics are still being worked out, and that once they know the timeline for extradition, they would provide that update.
