SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane Independent Investigation Response (SIIR) Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting on January 24, 2025, following a domestic violence call in the 200 block of E. Sanson Avenue.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), at 1:53 p.m., a woman called 911 reporting her ex-boyfriend, 52-year-old John C. Primero, was at her home in violation of a domestic violence no contact order.
911 operators advised police of reported hearing yelling, and that Primero had threatened the victims with a hammer.
SCSO said, officers entered the home after hearing screams and, shortly after, reported shots fired.
SPD reports that Officer Marvin Cunningham discharged his firearm, hitting both Primero and the victim.
Primero was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
The female victim, who had used pepper spray to defend herself, was injured in the leg by gunfire. She was treated and released from the hospital.
Primero was booked into Spokane County Jail after being medically cleared.
Primero faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of second-degree assault, violation of a domestic violence order with assault, first-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, and two counts of harassment with a weapon involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
