CHEWELAH, Wash. – The Libraries of Stevens County is excited to announce the grand reopening of the Chewelah Library after months of renovations.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by Winterfest activities in Chewelah at noon.
The public is invited to explore the newly renovated library on Saturday, February 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Special events include a book sale from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and sled dog storytimes at 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. featuring sled dogs from the Inland Empire Sled Dog Association.
Renovations include a new meeting room for community events, updated paint and carpet, expanded ADA-compliant bathrooms, and automatic doors for easier accessibility.
The renovation was funded by $87,300 from the Washington State Library Capital Improvement Program, $10,000 from the American Library Association Accessibility Grant, and $5,000 from the Friends of the Chewelah Library.
The library is still $76,800 short of its fundraising goal for additional upgrades, including modern technology and a MakerSpace.
