On Sunday night, Peperzak Middle School sent out a notice to families saying counseling services and additional resources would be made available to staff and students.
In the statement, Peperzak Principal Andre Wicks said families should pay close attention to their students saying in part:
We encourage you to closely observe your student in the coming days and weeks for any signs of distress or changes in behavior that may indicate a need for further support. Providing emotional support and creating a safe space for open conversations will be key to helping your child process these complex emotions. Your care and guidance can make a meaningful difference during this difficult time.
The Spokane Police Department has not released any information regarding a possible suspect at this time.
