SPOKANE, Wash – One of River Park Square’s longest-standing tenants has closed up and moved out. The signs outside Banana Republic are gone and the store is empty.
The store was open as recently as last week.
A spokesperson for Riverpark Square said, “Banana Republic has been a valued retail merchant for many years and will be missed.”
The spokesperson could not disclose any other information about what could fill the space, due to the confidential nature of lease agreements.
The store has been on the first floor of the mall since September 2000.
Banana Republic is owned by Gap, Inc.
In 2020, the company announced it would restructure over the next several years, planning to close more than 200 of its stores.
The company said at the time it would shift its focus from malls to outlets and online shopping.
A 2024 annual report said the store closures had been completed by the end of 2023, so this location doesn’t appear to be a result of that initial restructuring.
The company has a Gap store in River Park Square and also owns Athleta, which is on the second floor of the mall.
