MOSCOW, Ida. – The 14-5 (6-0) Northern Colorado Bears thought they called game after a Jaron Rillie layup with three seconds to go.
Kolton Mitchell had other ideas.
His contested heave at the buzzer swished through the basket, ending UNC’s unbeaten run through the Big Sky at six games.
Mitchell scored 25 points on 50% shooting, plus three steals on the other end of the court. Tyler Linhardt led the bench with 17 more points, plus three rebounds and a pair of steals.
The Vandals managed a tepid 22 rebounds (compared to the Bears’ 33), but only turned the ball over eight times.
Idaho is now 9-11 overall, 4-3 in conference. They next host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, who come off a win at Eastern Washington tonight.
