SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A person died in an apartment fire in Spokane Valley on Wednesday night, according to Spokane Valley Fire Department.
Around 8 p.m. on January 22, fire crews responded to a reported tree on fire outside an apartment building near Skipworth Road and Main Avenue in Spokane Valley.
When firefighters arrived, they found a tree on fire, put out the flames and called for additional crews.
They then began investigating to see if the fire had spread from the tree to the apartment and soon found flames and heavy smoke in a first-floor unit.
When they entered the apartment, firefighters discovered a deceased victim and put out the flames.
Spokane Valley Police Department and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office were also both at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The name of the deceased and cause of death have not yet been released.
