SPOKANE, Wash. — A new medically-supported respite facility is opening next week at the Westminster United Church of Christ in Spokane.
This facility will offer medically-supported care to help people with chronic or acute illness. It will have 30 beds and serve those experiencing homelessness in Spokane.
The city said this facility is part of its new navigation center and scattered site homeless response model, which focuses on creating services and housing options that allow people experiencing homelessness to stabilize and work toward permanent housing.
The site will also be an outreach site for the Providence Community Clinic. Staff from Jewels Helping Hands, the site operator, received training from Providence to support those staying at the facility.
The city said this is not a walk-in shelter and does not have outdoor areas for people to gather. It added the site will not be used for shelter surge capacity. People receiving respite care will be referred through Providence Community Clinic and be subject to a background check.
The facility will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at 411 Washington Street. The city said everyone is welcome to visit and learn more about the facility and the care it offers.
