SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Two men detained during a fatal shooting investigation in Spokane Valley will not face charges at this time, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office determined.
According to the sheriff’s office, a heated confrontation between two groups of people escalated in a shooting at 4th Avenue and University Road around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Deputies says one man was found shot and died at the scene. SCSO located a firearm near him.
A few blocks away, two men were detained believed to be involved at a home near 8th Avenue and Houck Road. A gun was seized at that location.
SCSO says one of the detained men claimed self-defense when he fired at the person killed.
Both of the detained men were later released without charges. No other injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office says this remains an active investigation and future arrests are possible.
The identity of the person killed will be released at a later time by the Spokane County Medical Examiner.
