SPOKANE, Wash. — It’s time to nominate your favorite downtown Spokane business for the annual Best in BID awards!
For the last three years, the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) has hosted the awards to show off the area’s favorite small, locally-owned businesses within the Downtown Spokane Business Improvement District (BID).
“The businesses really have a lot of fun getting the vote out themselves, and we often see thousands of votes come in for our winners,” said Elisabeth Hooker, Vice President of Marketing and Programming for DSP.
This year’s categories for nomination are:
Best new businessBest local collaborationMost inspirational business ownerBest place for wellness and relaxationBest social media presenceBest place for a quick lunch breakBest locally-owned fashion spotBest spot for a study session or work meetingBest place for a first dateBest place to take your out-of-town guests
“Coming out of pandemic shutdowns, we really wanted to celebrate what made downtown so special as part of our ‘Spokane is Downtown’ campaign. We wanted to highlight those unique, locally-owned businesses that area a great reason to come downtown,” said Hooker.
Last year, First Avenue Coffee won ‘Friendliest Staff’. Owner, Doyle Wheeler said he is excited his business represents a place where people feel welcomed and safe.
“It’s something I’m very proud of and that I bring up every chance I get,” said Wheeler.
Nominees can be any small, locally-owned business that is a ratepayer in good standing with the BID.
The nomination period will close on Jan. 6. Public voting will run from Jan. 8 to Jan. 20.
Winners will be announced on Feb. 20 at nYne Bar and Bistro. Each winner will receive spotlight and recognition at the Feb. 20 event, featured spotlights on Downtown Spokane social media, spotlights in the What’s Happening Downtown e-newsletter, paid digital advertisement features, a feature in the 2025 State of Downtown Annual Report and consideration for a video feature in the Spokane is Downtown campaign.
Last year’s winners include House of Brunch (Best new business), Riverfront Park (Best family friendly spot), Auntie’s Bookstore (Most community-involved), First Avenue Coffee (Friendliest Staff) and more.
