SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A Spokane Valley woman was arrested for trying to stab her neighbor with a sword Friday morning.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, calls came in around 7:50 a.m. about a man who was attacked by his neighbor, 43-year-old Elizabeth S. Ptacek, with a knife on South Adams Road in Spokane Valley.
When a deputy arrived, he saw Ptacek and victim struggling for control of what appeared to be a sword in Ptacek’s hand.
The deputy drew his weapon and ordered Ptacek to drop the weapon. After yelling that several times, she complied and was detained.
SCSO said Ptacek knocked on the victim’s door earlier that morning. When he opened the door and asked if she needed anything, Ptacek smiled and said no before returning to her apartment.
A few minutes later, SCSO said Ptacek was screaming inside her apartment.
With no other way out of the apartment, the victim walked two teenagers down toward the stairs. Ptacek then left her apartment and swung the sword toward the victim’s stomach.
The victim blocked the blade with his hand and pushed Ptacek against the wall to protect the teens and himself.
SCSO said Ptacek made statements to deputies that indicated she was possibly suffering a mental health crisis.
First responders helped the victim who received a cut to his hand.
Ptacek was booked into Spokane County Jail for assault.
