PULLMAN, Wash – On the same day he was welcomed as the new head football coach at Wake Forest, former WSU coach Jake Dickert thanked WSU fans for his time in Pullman.
Dickert posted a message on social media Thursday.
“It has been a true honor to be head football coach at Washington State University for the last three years,” Dickert wrote. “My family has embraced and loved our time here on the Palouse. I can’t even begin to say how much this university and community mean to me.”
Dickert was elevated to head coach from defensive coordinator after WSU fired Nick Rolovich for not complying with the state mandate to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
Dickert ended his time at WSU with a 23-20 record. His teams qualified for three bowl games, including this year’s Holiday Bowl which will be played on December 27th.
His departure surprised WSU fans and has left the university searching for a new head coach while also dealing with more than 20 players in the transfer portal while still preparing for a bowl game.
Dickert ended his social media statement by thanking the players he coached during his time in Pullman.
“These young men have given me life and more hope for the future of college football,” he wrote. “They are, and forever will be, your Cougs.”
