The quarterback who led Washington State University to an 8-4 season this year is off to his next home in Norman, Oklahoma.
John Mateer posted on Twitter/X and Instagram Wednesday, just days after announcing his intention to enter the transfer portal.
On Twitter/X, the Texas native posted a picture of himself on the OU campus with a date stamp of June 12, 2020. The caption on the post reads “Praise God!! #BoomerSooner”
He collaborated on a video posted to Instagram featuring Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” with the caption “Santa came early and he’s a Sooner.” The video ends with Mateer holding a football in front of a Christmas tree, wearing a 1 Oklahoma logo. 1 Oklahoma is the NIL partner supporting Sooner athletics.
Mateer was a top target for the Sooners. The team recently hired WSU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.
The news comes on the same day WSU lost head football coach Jake Dickert to Wake Forest.
