WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — Whooping cough cases continue to climb in Whitman County.
According to Whitman County Public Health (WCPH), 77 pertussis cases had been identified as of Friday, an increase of 6 cases from Nov. 27.
WCPH said, one case has been identified and confirmed in a Whitman County K-12 school.
According to WCPH, letters have been sent through the school system regarding potential exposures and necessary actions.
If you received a letter, please review the instructions on how to respond.
Pertussis is highly contagious, and while both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals can contract it, unvaccinated people may experience more severe symptoms.
WCPH said, please make sure that your family’s vaccinations are up to date.
WCPH recommends that all current cases be isolated until they have completed the 5-day course of antibiotics their provider prescribes.
