SPOKANE, Wash. — Dozens of people lined up at Domini’s Sandwiches in downtown Spokane to grab one last sandwich before it closed for good on Thursday.
Located in the Washington Trust building, Domini’s announced its closure earlier this year. The owner, Tom Domini, said it is time to retire after over 60 years in the business.
On the shop’s final day, customers reminisced about the good times spent at Domini’s.
“I’ve always loved this sandwich shop. I’ve brough so many friends here, and I brought a few first dates here. It’s kind of sad, but exciting, in a way, to see all these people turn out to come get a yummy sandwich,” said lifelong customer, Jim Mackenzie.
Domini said the most meaningful part of owning the shop all these days was the loyal customers.
“It’s a love relationship. It’s like family. Everybody hugs each other. It’s one of those things, even with the employees. They’ve been amazing for me during this last part,” he said.
Tom said the deli already has a new owner, but that they will need to find somewhere else in the city to sell the iconic sandwiches.
