SPOKANE, Wash. — Hundreds of people – and several furry friends – flocked to Manito Park Thursday morning for the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
The three-mile race is hosted by the Blooms Day Runners Club but was open for anyone to participate.
Emulating the South Hill turkeys, people of all ages came to race in costumes. Some even sported festive turkey hats for the occasion.
“You have so many people and it’s so much fun to see the dogs and the strollers and everyone having such a good time. It’s a good introduction to Thanksgiving,” Fred Stahl one of today’s turkey trotters.
Some racers even said this pre-Thanksgiving meal workout is a family tradition.
“I like just getting out with my grandparents and my dad and getting to run,” said turkey trot participant Charlotte Framstad.
The race was free to participate but in the spirit of giving, people were asked to bring canned food and cash donations for Second Harvest.
By the end of the trot, donation boxes were full.
