LEWISTON, Idaho — At least one pet died in a Lewiston apartment fire Tuesday morning.
According to the Lewiston Fire Department, calls came in around 11:30 a.m. about a fire in a main floor apartment on 6th Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they saw the upstairs neighbor trying to put out the fire with a garden hose.
Fire officials said smoke was visible from the main floor apartment. While everyone was evacuated from the building, there was still believed to be one pet inside the apartment.
Lewiston Fire Department said the residents of the main floor apartment were not there when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters took over and were able to put the fire out quickly. While several pets were saved from the apartment, not all were able to be saved.
The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damages to the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No people or firefighters were hurt.
