SPOKANE, Wash. — A local non-profit organization that helps families experiencing homelessness is getting a grant from one of the richest men in the world.
Family Promise of Spokane is being awarded a $2.5 million grant from Jeff Bezos through the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, which awards grants to non-profit fighting homelessness.
Family Promise is one of 40 organizations in the U.S. splitting $110.5 million from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.
Family Promise says the funds will help the non-profit reach more families experiencing homelessness and create new models to help the growing need in the community.
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, family homelessness rose dramatically from 2022 to 2023 and now represents 28% of the homeless population in the country.
“Receiving this $2.5 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund is transformative for Family Promise of Spokane and, more importantly, for the families we serve,” said Joe Ader, CEO of Family Promise of Spokane. “This award empowers us to expand our innovative housing solutions, offering families a secure pathway back into stable homes. With these resources, we can deepen our impact and drive lasting change, helping break the cycle of homelessness for countless children and parents in Spokane.”
