SPOKANE, Wash. — A judge has sentenced a Moses Lake man to 60 months in federal prison for setting off an explosive at a person’s home.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 33-year-old Nicholas Anardi was serving a prison sentence when someone stole from his garage.
Anardi sought revenge against the person he though did it and, when he got out, planned to use explosive devices to “scare them.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Anardi fashioned two bombs, one with a model rocket engine and one with an aerial mortar round. Anardi also wrapped metal wire and pennies around the bombs to be shrapnel.
On September 11, 2021, Anardi rode his bike over to the apartment of the person he thought stole from him.
Anardi threw one bomb over the backyard fence which did not explode. He placed the second bomb by the door of the apartment which did explode.
Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad rendered the unexploded bomb safe and shrapnel from the exploded bomb was found as much as 130 feet away.
“Mr. Anardi built two deadly bombs that included homemade shrapnel and attempted to detonate them in an apartment complex full of people. Thankfully, no one was hurt by Mr. Anaradi’s reckless and dangerous behavior,” stated U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “My office is committed to working closely with our law enforcement partners to hold violent offenders accountable and build safer and stronger communities.”
Anardi will spend the next five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
