SPOKANE, Wash.– Months of waiting are over. Drought-busting rain finally appears to be arriving in the Inland Northwest. Wednesday was the wettest day in Spokane since December 6, 2023. 0.70″ fell at Spokane International Airport as of 5 p.m. PST.
Up until the last two weeks, 2024 was a dry and drought-filled year. It was a wet start in January and February, but not all that snowy thanks to El Niño. Total rainfall in Spokane from January 1 to October 30 is one of the lowest in 40 years.
It should be no surprise then that over the last two weeks (October 31 – November 13) more rain has fallen than for any other time period in 2024.
With La Niña expected this winter, outlooks are optimistic on getting more moisture and ending drought across much of the Inland Northwest.
In the near-term, another storm will bring rain and mountain snow this weekend, followed by a break from wet weather for at least a few days. Check out the latest First Alert Forecast HERE.
