SPOKANE, Wash – Improvements could be coming soon to Mt. Spokane State Park, as part of an overall vision for the park northeast of Spokane.
Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has been working on a master plan for the park, the state’s largest, including public workshops held earlier this year.
They’ll present an update on the plan at a virtual meeting Wednesday.
In the presentation already posted online, the parks department discusses creating a 20-year vision for the park, including what can be done at the recently-acquired Bear Creek Lodge and the ski area.
The state is also looking at a trail plan and what can be done with overnight accommodations within the 13,919 acre park.
Among the recommendations is a plan to modernize the Vista House and offer more events at the summit of the park. The state is also considering adding uphill lift capabilities in the summer months.
There are also discussions about expanding the Bald Knob camping area and improving trailhead access and signage.
The state is also discussing retaining the tubing hill at Bear Creek Lodge and offering a visitor and interpretive center there.
The plans will be discussed at Wednesday’s meeting, as the department will then develop a draft for review.
The parks commission hopes to adopt a plan by fall of 2025.
