People in Spokane with certain health conditions should limit their time outside due to poor air quality on Sunday.
According to Spokane Clean Air, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for November 10 is 101, meaning the air is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
“Occasional periods of light precipitation are expected on Sunday, creating a more persistent fog layer in some areas as the added moisture gets trapped under the stubborn temperature inversion, with another wetter system arriving overnight and into Monday, bringing a cold front and increased wind to the region,” said the Spokane Clean Air forecast.
The AQI scale ranges from 0-500, with 0-50 being “good” and 301-500 being “hazardous.”
Sunday’s score of 101 means Spokane’s air quality does not meet the federal, health-based air quality standard.
Spokane Clean Air said people with the following conditions should exercise caution and limit their time outside on Sunday:
Those with lung disease, asthma, COPD, bronchitis, emphysema, respiratory infections, cold, flu, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, angina and history or risk of heart attack or stroke.
They also said babies under 18 months, pregnant women and adults over 65 should take precautions.
As of 2 p.m. on Sunday, Spokane Clean Air predicts a similar AQI for Monday, November 11.
